In The Garden

When Treasure Bear woke up this morning, he could hardly believe his eyes, for after days and days of rain and wind, the sun was shining brightly in a clear, blue sky. "Hurrah!" he exclaimed excitedly, "today we can plant out my runner beans!" So he scurried about in and out of the tool shed and gathered his tools. Treasure is such a brave little bear, for the tool shed is full of big, hairy spiders, but nevertheless, in he went and came out with his rake and shovel. A short while later, six strong and healthy runner bean plants were planted in a big pot of fresh compost, and all staked up with strong bamboo canes and garden twine. "I cannot wait for them to grow and then I can cook up a great big pan full of beans and eat them with a slice of brown bread and butter. Mmmmm, Yummy!” said Treaure. While planting the runner beans he noticed that some of his sunflowers had popped their tiny heads above the soil and two small leaves stood up from a small stem. “Oh, gardening is such fun” he said, “I love watching things I planted grow.”

By this time, some of the other bears were getting up out of bed and, one by one, they arrived in the kitchen. Sleepily and still yawning, they asked what Treasure was up to so early on a Sunday morning so, after he explained that he had already planted his runner beans, he took them all out into the garden and showed them his sunflowers. They all looked in amazement, and Pookie and Bitw could not get over the baby sunflower being nearly as big as they are!

Just before lunch, Treasure began to tidy up his tools, when he noticed something odd sitting on top of the compost. The nice lady, who lives with Treasure, explained that it is a dandelion seed and that we should really move it away from the compost as it is a weed and not a good thing to grow with your vegetables. Being a curious little bear, Treasure wanted to know more about the dandelion, but just at that very moment a puff of wind came out of nowhere and blew the dandelion seed up in the air. Around and around it blew. Guess where it landed? Right on Treasure's tiny, black nose!

Atchooo! sneezed Treasure,

"that tickles" he said, and he giggled and giggled until he sneezed again and blew it away. The nice lady then took Treasure and showed him some dandelion seed heads and Treasure was amazed at how delicate they looked, and even more amazed at how easy it was to puff at them and blow them into the wind. Suddenly, he began to yawn. Tired from working so hard in the garden, and from huffing and puffing dandelion seeds into the wind, Treasure decided it was time for a nap. So, in he came and curled himself up on a cushion in the window where he is now fast asleep in the warm sunshine, dreaming of giant beanstalks that climb right up out of sight and a way into the clouds.

So utterly adorable and he even has small garden tools too! Please, am being asked to ask where to find such tools for a certain bear here who's sunflowers have yet to come up. :)

Both of my children, but Sam especially, could not resist blowing away any dandelion that they found. They are quite magical and so pretty. I wonder how they became a weed?
